We had dinner at Nev last night with a few of my closest friends, and it honestly felt like a celebration from start to finish. The name “Nev” hints at something fresh, and that’s exactly what it is: modern Turkish cuisine done right. It brings a new touch while still staying true to the heart and soul of the food we all grew up with. Even before the starters, they brought out tiny bites of hummus, muhammara, and olive paste in little baklava dough cups. It was such a nice surprise. The hummus was incredibly smooth and light, a great start. We went a bit overboard with the starters, but no regrets. From the cold dishes: lentil köfte, smoked haydari, artichoke terrine, and pastırma turşusu. Then warm ones: firik arancini, artichoke tempura (which was unreal), summer lahmacun, and kokoreç bruschetta. All with Tekirdağ rakı, göbek, of course. Ender recommended it, and it was spot on. I’m an artichoke fan and I’ve had a lot, but I wasn’t expecting to be this impressed. The tempura was super light and crispy, and the terrine was deep and rich in flavor. The lentil köfte had a nice tangy kick. The haydari with simit bits and dukkah was already calling you in with its smell before you even took a bite. But the pastırma? That one stole the night. Melts in your mouth, fatty in the best way, and it literally explodes with what pickleish complexity, and that cheese and fig cream... wow. It just works. Every dish had something familiar, but also something surprising. The kokoreç was soft and not too greasy. The chutney on the lahmacun made it super fresh. It was like a summer version of a classic. Desserts were revani and profiterole. But they weren’t your usual versions. The revani was light, not syrupy at all, with crunchy poppy seeds and passion fruit. The profiterole had this smooth date sauce instead of chocolate. Just one bite was enough to reset your whole palate. I live in the UK and have tried many Turkish restaurants abroad, but most lose something along the way: the balance, the seasoning, the heart. Nev doesn’t. You can feel the love in every plate. Chef Nilay and sous chef Nur are clearly doing something special here. The vibe of the place was calm and open. Absolutely perfect for a summer night. The whole team was so warm and welcoming. We felt like we were guests, not customers. It’s also listed in the Gault Millau guide, no surprise there. But more than that, it’s the kind of place you want to come back to. I’ll definitely go again whenever I’m in Eindhoven. Even alone. But best with close friends, good conversations, and food you’ll keep thinking about.
