Pitches are great & the league system is great. I’ve played for around 2 years & I’d say I enjoyed my time playing in the first year & half. Recently however, some of the referees have become an issue for myself and my team. Some of them are absolutely appalling to say the very best about them & take the upmost advantage of the power they hold. Trying to find out what’s happening through the desk regarding incidents that happen is virtually impossible also. One of the refs is such a child; he encourages his girlfriend, who is a major attention seeking melt, to stand on the side of the pitch you’re playing on, hurling insults at you until you retaliate but the desk can’t do anything about this issue as “it hasn’t come from a referee so it’s your word against hers”. Gordon & Steve however, unreal referees who I’ll never have a bad word to say about. Gordon’s openly told me that he didn’t like my team at all in the beginning, but he’s a shining example of what a referee should be doing regardless of personal dislike for a team. He never had us leave the game feeling like he was against us with every decision. The fact these two referees are on the same pay as some other referees is laughable in my personal opinion. In short, my advice if you’re going to play in Gol’s leagues is to suck up to every referee as best you can because the moment one takes a disliking to you it’s over any time he’s on the same pitch you’re playing on.

I’ve been playing at Gol Centres for over 15 years now, and I have to say it’s become a real Cardiff Institution in that time. The pitches are great, the staff are friendly and back when we played leagues, they were well organised. The introduction of the pitch side cameras was a game changer and it’s been great seeing our wonder goals and epic fails played back. Some other football centres can feel a little rough and violent, but the team at Gol have always had player safety as a priority. You always feel safe and that you can enjoy a great game of football in good spirit at Gol. Here’s hoping for another 15 years of footy down at Gol!
