The Animal Wall in Cardiff offers a whimsical diversion from the urban landscape, captivating both children and adults alike with its charming stone inhabitants. Located along the edge of Bute Park near Cardiff Castle, this historical Grade I listed structure was originally conceived by architect William Burges in the 1890s and later relocated in the 1930s. With 15 intricately carved animals, including a lynx, lioness, bear, and seal, each sculpture presents distinct, lifelike details that invite imaginative engagement. This free attraction holds both historical and artistic significance, making it a delightful photo opportunity and a beloved site for locals and visitors exploring the heart of Cardiff.

Animal Wall w Cardiff to niezwykły element architektoniczny otaczający teren zamku, słynący z rzeźb zwierząt o niemal bajkowym charakterze. Powstał pod koniec XIX wieku z inicjatywy trzeciego markiza Bute, a zaprojektował go William Burges – ten sam architekt, który przebudował zamek w stylu neogotyckim. Po śmierci Burgesa projekt dokończył jego współpracownik William Frame, a pierwsze rzeźby ustawiono w 1890 roku. Mur pierwotnie znajdował się tuż przy zamku, od strony centrum miasta, a wzdłuż niego umieszczono dziewięć naturalistycznych figur zwierząt wyrzeźbionych z piaskowca przez Thomasa Nichollsa. Przedstawiają one m.in. lwa, niedźwiedzia, małpy, rysia, wilka czy pelikana – każde zwierzę zostało ukazane w dynamicznej pozie, jakby spoglądało zza muru na przechodniów. W latach 20. XX wieku, w związku z przebudową arterii przy zamku, mur przeniesiono w obecne miejsce, a dodano do niego kolejne rzeźby, wykonane przez Alexandra Carlera. Architektonicznie Animal Wall łączy funkcję dekoracyjną z elementem obronnego ogrodzenia, ale jego największą wartością jest kunszt rzeźbiarski i fantazja twórców. Zwierzęta, wyrzeźbione z dużą dbałością o szczegół, wyglądają jak żywe – mają wyraziste twarze, dynamiczne ciała i charakterystyczne cechy gatunkowe. Dziś mur jest jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych i lubianych symboli Cardiff, przyciągając uwagę turystów i mieszkańców jako przykład wiktoriańskiej wyobraźni, która potrafiła połączyć elementy architektury obronnej z pełną uroku sztuką dekoracyjną.

Hayvan Duvarı ( Galce : Wal yr Anifeiliaid ), Galler'in Cardiff şehrinin merkezindeki Kale Bölgesi'nde bulunan 14 hayvanı betimleyen heykelsi bir duvardır . Cardiff Kalesi girişinin batısında yer alır ve 1930'ların başında kalenin önündeki orijinal konumundan taşınmıştır. Duvarın tasarımı, Burges'in 1860'larda kaleyi yeniden inşa etmesi sırasında, Bute'nin üçüncü Markisi'nin mimarı William Burges tarafından tasarlandı, ancak 1880'lerin sonu/1890'ların başına kadar hayata geçirilemedi. Orijinal dokuz hayvan heykelini içeren ve tamamı Burges'in en sevdiği heykeltıraş Thomas Nicholls tarafından üstlenilen bu çalışma, daha önce hem Cardiff Kalesi'nde hem de Castell Coch'ta Burges'e yardım etmiş olan William Frame'in yönetimi altında gerçekleştirildi . Duvar 20. yüzyılın başlarında taşındığında, dördüncü Marki, Alexander Carrick'e, şu anda Bute Park'ın ön cephesini oluşturan genişletilmiş duvarın üzerine oturacak altı heykel daha yontmasını emretti . Hayvan Duvarı, I. Derece koruma altındaki bir yapıdır. Orijinal dokuz hayvan figürü , Burges'in en sevdiği heykeltıraş Thomas Nicholls tarafından yapılmıştı ve bir sırtlan, bir kurt, iki babun, bir fok, bir ayı, bir dişi aslan, bir vaşak ve iki aslanı içeriyordu.
