About

The memorial in the Neo-Romanesque style, a multi-towered church that rose from the ashes of World War II - the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church consists of fragments of the surviving building and two new parts, albeit built as early as 1961. The destroyed spire, standing 68 meters tall, was intentionally not restored to serve as a constant reminder of a past best forgotten. Inside, visitors are greeted by a series of photographs, models, and surviving items from years past. It has become a sanctuary for the Stalingrad Madonna - created by the hands of a pastor in the besieged city-hero during the dreadful year of '42. The new building stands out with its 20,000 windows, made of completely opaque glass. The sky-blue and deep blue tones provide peace and serenity to everyone who comes close to this landmark.
