Se construyó sobre los restos de una iglesia románica del siglo XIII dedicada a San Juan Bautista, que pertenecía a la Orden de San Juan de Jerusalén (Caballeros Hospitalarios). Fue construida en 1725 por el arquitecto Juan de Mondelar. Presenta un estilo arquitectónico bárroco. La iglesia tiene una liegra inclinación debido al hundimiento del terreno.

Die Iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes liegt direkt neben der Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza und stammt im Kern aus dem Jahr 1725. Erbaut über einer früheren mittelalterlichen Kirche der Orden von San Juan de Jerusalén ist sie heute ein nationales Denkmal. Auffällig ist der geneigte oktogonale Turm im Mudéjar-Stil und die schlichte Barockfassade mit der Figur Johannes des Täufers in der Nische. Die Zugangspiramide im Inneren teilt sich in drei gleich hohe Schiffe mit lunettenartigen Gewölben und einer zentralen Kuppel. Die Kirche lässt sich nur von außen besichtigen doch ihre Architektur und historische Bedeutung prägen das Stadtbild deutlich.
