About

St Mary's Chapel in Würzburg stands as a remarkable example of Gothic architecture from the 14th century, with its towering spires and intricate stone carvings. Once intended as a burial site for the prince-bishops of the region, this chapel carries a profound historical narrative, including its somber beginnings over the site of a demolished synagogue and its resilience through reconstruction after World War II damage. Its interior boasts magnificent stained glass windows and houses renowned works like the "Beautiful Madonna" and the "Silver Madonna." As a recognized cultural heritage site and the burial place of the esteemed Baroque architect Balthasar Neumann, this chapel remains a must-visit attraction, drawing both architecture enthusiasts and those interested in Bavaria's layered history. With an impressive 4.6 average rating on Google, St Mary's blends historical depth with architectural beauty, making it an unforgettable stop in Würzburg.
