About

Maria Theresa Square, named after the Archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary, is the hub of Vienna's tourist life. The square is flanked by two neo-Renaissance twin buildings on either side - the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museum, which were built between 1872 and 1881. The first is considered one of the richest and most comprehensive museums in the world - among its numerous Iron Age exhibits is the famous Venus of Willendorf. The latter is well known for housing one of the world's largest art galleries. At the center of the square stands a monument to the Austrian Empress, surrounded by four equestrian statues of generals Daun, Laudon, Traun, and Khevenhüller.
