Era la antigua iglesia parroquial del pueblo de Ruzafa, independiente hasta 1877 (siglo XIX) en qué fue anexionado en la ciudad de Valencia. Es un templo barroco construido en baldosa en el siglo XVII, que se levanta sobre otro anterior mandado construir por Jaime I el Conquistador en el siglo XIII. Este templo fue destruido por un incendio ocurrido en 1415. La construcción del nuevo templo barroco se atribuye a Tomás Leonardo Esteve, mientras que la decoración barroca del interior hoy desaparecida era de Juan Bautista Pérez Castiel y su hijo Juan Pérez Castilla
