About

In Toledo, the Iglesia Del Salvador stands as a remarkable testament to the layers of Spanish history. Completed in 1159, this church invites visitors to explore its ancient roots, from its Roman origins to its Visigoth influences and its transition into a mosque. The subtly majestic tower, once a mosque minaret, now hosts Baroque additions, while inside, a dazzling horseshoe arcade rests upon intricately decorated Visigothic pilasters. Below, archeological remains whisper tales of the past, offering glimpses into centuries gone by. This site, part of the Toledo Tourist Bracelet program, captivates with its historical depth and the legacy of famous baptisms, including Joanna of Castile. For those wandering through the narrow streets of Toledo, a 1-to-2-hour visit here is an exploration of enduring cultural and architectural fusion.
