Wir haben die Kirche der Zisterzienserinnenabtei Santo Domingo de Silos eher zufällig besucht – und waren vollkommen überrascht von dem, was sich hinter den Mauern verbirgt. Für nur 3 Euro Eintritt erhält man Zugang zu einem kleinen, aber eindrucksvollen Schatz religiöser Kunst und Geschichte. Ein echtes Highlight sind die Originalgemälde von El Greco – ein unerwarteter Fund in dieser abgelegenen Abtei! Noch beeindruckender: Der berühmte Maler ist hier beerdigt, und sein schlichter Steinsarg ist in der Kirche sichtbar – ein bewegender Moment für Kunstliebhaber. Das angeschlossene kleine Museum zeigt eine schöne Sammlung religiöser Artefakte, die einen Einblick in die klösterliche Geschichte geben. Außerdem gibt es einen Verkaufsbereich mit hausgemachten Klosterprodukten, vor allem Süßigkeiten, die man unbedingt probieren sollte. Das Fotografieren ist leider nicht erlaubt,
