About

Once, the place where Mauterndorf now stands was a tax collection point for traders, which rather quickly grew into a four-story building with its own prison and fortified walls. The local elite wanted to protect themselves from enemies, so soon towers, battlements, and high fortress walls appeared, adorned with frescoes and coats of arms. Today, the castle is city-owned and functions as a museum. The interior decor is executed in a minimalist style, although occasionally one might find some stucco or an elegant alcove, near which, looking proudly at tourists, stands another painting by a famous artist.

Prachtige burcht.

Castle is nicely renovated, unfortunately with focus on attractive look instead of historical building. More for children
