I had high hopes for this dinner. The setting is elegant, and the name behind it brings a certain expectation of refinement and consistency. While some dishes truly stood out, such as the spaghetti with caviar, too much of the overall experience fell short for what is clearly intended to be a high-end fine dining destination. To be fair, most of the dishes were beautifully plated. Presentation was clearly given thoughtful attention, and there were some very good flavors throughout the meal. Several dishes showed creativity and solid technique, and the progression of the menu had promise. But those moments were unfortunately surrounded by others that distracted from the overall experience. From the start, there were missteps that began to chip away at the illusion. A wine glass was brought to the table with lipstick on the rim. That alone set the tone. Early in the evening, a staff member asked me about my nut allergy, and we agreed to skip the bread course entirely. Given that, it struck me as odd that they still placed olive oil, butter, and pepper on the table. These are garnishes meant for the bread I could not have, and they sat there untouched for the entire meal. It felt like a subtle oversight. A small detail, yes, but in this kind of setting, those things matter. One course was served before the wine arrived. Garnish dust from a plate was spilled directly onto the table. The silverware, while not a focal point, was visibly scuffed and had fingerprints. These may seem like minor issues, but when layered together, they begin to erode the overall impression. One of the more frustrating moments came during a shared course with another table. They received an elaborate dry ice presentation for the same dish I was served, complete with a dramatic tableside pour from a large serving vessel. I was given a small bowl, quietly scooped and served without any of the same attention or effect. It felt as if corners were being cut simply because I was dining alone. Consistency and care should not depend on how many people are at your table. Some of the dishes were average, and a few missed the mark completely. The sea urchin pasta was unbalanced. The quality of the urchin itself was poor, and the dish was far too salty. The lobster course was smothered in a heavy mushroom sauce that overwhelmed the sweetness and delicacy of the lobster. The combination felt mismatched and out of season, especially on a hot June evening. Perhaps the most distracting issue was the noise. I was seated by a window, far from the kitchen, yet I could clearly hear the sound of pots and pans being slammed and moved around for an extended period of time. It was loud, persistent, and not something that belongs in a fine dining environment. Whatever was happening in the back should have been addressed. It pulled me out of the experience completely. To their credit, the sommelier was gracious and made an effort to pair wines for me when I asked. But I was surprised to learn ...
