Обеліск з'явився ще далекого 1660 року. Святому Януарієві приписують порятунок міста від виверження Везувію. Про ту подію існує чимало легенд. Одна з них говорить: коли потік лави вулкана, що раптово спалахнув, попрямував на місто, неаполітанці вирішили звернутися до архієпископа і зберігачів скарбниці святого Януарія з проханням винести реліквії, щоб зупинити стихію. Але священна верхівка на той час уже покинула місто. Тоді до потоків лави зі священними дарами попрямував хресний хід, однак і він виявився безсилим. І лише щирі благання до святого створили диво. Кам'яна статуя Януарія, що стояла на мосту, підняла руку і зупинила виверження. Тому у статуї, яка була встановлена на згадку про ту подію, святий в оточенні ангелів змахує рукою у напрямку Везувію. Така історія 😊

Beautiful statue, located on the side of Santa Maria church (which is a must visit!). There is a restaurant on the side of the statue and they cook delicious!
