El pastor es bueno, es rebanado del trompo Su gran problema es la atención. Pésima atención, las dueñas son un fastidio Tienes casi que rogarles para que te vendan Te cobran de mala gana ,te atienden peor.

Finding exceptional places to eat in the Agrícola Oriental neighbourhood isn’t always an easy quest, but every now and then, something stands out and makes the whole search worthwhile. That’s exactly what happened when my wife and I stumbled upon Tacos El Mayab, a modest yet popular taquería located on Avenida Sur 8, just a few steps from Rojo Gómez Avenue. Living nearby, we decided to take a stroll to explore some lesser-known local eateries. As we walked down Sur 8, we passed the typical urban mosaic of small shops, hardware stores, and local bakeries, with the rhythmic buzz of microbuses and vendors calling out their wares in the background. The late afternoon sun filtered through the trees, casting a warm glow on the pavement, and the familiar aroma of grilled meats soon led us directly to our target. Tacos El Mayab isn’t flashy, but it’s exactly what a taco lover dreams of, real, rustic, and inviting. The open-air trompo spinning near the entrance hints at what’s in store: Tacos al Pastor crafted with care and attention. The place offers both indoor seating and a couple of outdoor tables. There’s a TV playing some cable shows, which adds to the casual, laid-back ambiance. The staff is incredibly kind, the kind of service that feels neighbourly, always welcoming you with a smile and genuinely attentive throughout your visit. We were lucky to find a table right away, though it was clear the place gets packed quickly, especially around dinner time. If you don’t want to wait for a table, they do offer takeaway, just bring some patience, as everything is cooked fresh. A waitress handed us the menu once we sat down. We noticed a nice range: Pastor, Bistec, Chorizo, Gringas, Alambres, and even Quesos Fundidos. To quench our thirst, we ordered a glass of Horchata and a Coca Cola, both refreshingly cold. Then came the food: a Queso Fundido with flour tortillas (perfect for sharing), followed by 10 Tacos al Pastor, 5 of Chorizo, and 5 of Bistec. Be sure to request your toppings, onion, coriander, and pineapple, as they’re not automatically added. Also note: the pineapple isn’t roasted with the meat, but it still complements the tacos well. Among all the tasty bites, the Tacos al Pastor stole the show. Succulent, well-marinated, and perfectly balanced between softness and char, they truly are among the best we’ve tried not just locally but city-wide. Final thoughts? Tacos El Mayab has earned a place in our local favourites list. It’s the kind of neighbourhood spot that restores your faith in simple, honest food done right. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite on your way home, a casual place to eat with family, or just want to experience a standout taco in the east of Mexico City, this is a must-visit. And trust us, as locals with a palate sharpened by years of travel and street food discovery, this spot hits the mark.
