I visited Frituur in Condesa, Mexico City, which at first appeared to be an inviting street-side restaurant. I ordered the grilled salmon with a side of vegetables. A few bites of the salmon, I realised the fish was undercooked and raw in the middle. I immediately sent it back. When the bill arrived, the fish was still included in the bill. I explained that I shouldn’t be charged for a dish that was unsafe to eat, but the staff decided to charge me half the price of the fish instead. I pointed out that serving raw fish (when it’s meant to be cooked) is a health and safety issue, and that it’s unreasonable to charge a customer who couldn’t eat the meal. When I asked to speak to the manager the situation became confrontational, with the manager saying he would check the security cameras to see how much I had eaten and charge me accordingly. He even brought out a kitchen porter to compare the leftover piece of fish on my plate to another fillet from the kitchen. This was incredibly uncomfortable and unprofessional — especially while I was worried I might become sick from eating raw fish. After a long and upsetting exchange, they finally removed the fish from the bill. However, the lack of accountability and the manager’s behaviour made this one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. At one stage they removed my cutlery but didn’t replace it during the meal. If a customer points out that their food is raw, a responsible restaurant should apologise and correct the problem — not accuse them of trying to avoid payment. Based on this experience, I would never return to Frituur and would caution others to think twice before dining there..

La comida y servicio merecen 5 estrellas. Sólo no le pongo 5 porque cuando fui, su wafflera no servía. Espero visitarlos nuevamente.
