The Duke of Richmond — Bistro Elegance in a Proper East London Pub We had a fantastic evening at The Duke of Richmond, and it’s safe to say this place knows how to blend charm, comfort, and culinary finesse. Tucked away on Queensbridge Road, it’s a classic British pub with a French soul — think pistachio panelled walls, chalkboard specials, and a menu that whispers “bistro” more than “boozer.” The food is seasonally British with French flair: duck liver parfait with apricot membrillo, confit tomato tart with crème fraîche and tapenade, and a crab soufflé that’s rich, golden, and unapologetically indulgent. Even the bar snacks — crispy pig’s ears, crab butty in brioche — are crafted with care and a wink of decadence. Drinks are equally thoughtful: local beers from Dalston’s 40FT Brewery, house-blended vermouth spritz, and a compact wine list that pairs beautifully with the food. Service is relaxed but attentive, and the atmosphere strikes a rare balance — refined without being fussy, cozy without being dull. Verdict: The Duke of Richmond is a confident, characterful spot where pub culture meets bistro brilliance. Ideal for date nights, slow dinners, or anyone craving East London charm with a French accent.
