2025 Churches, Cathedrals

Southwark Cathedral stands as a striking testament to history on the south bank of the River Thames, a stone's throw from where the ancient Roman bridge once lay. With its origins tracing back to AD 606, it was founded by Mellitus, the first Bishop of London. This Gothic masterpiece, completed over two centuries from 1220 to 1420, has weathered the storms of time, surviving fires and bombings. Visitors can admire a rich assortment of paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, and enjoy tranquil moments in its charming garden. The cathedral resonates with the echoes of choir rehearsals, accompanied by the majestic sounds of the organ. Accessible to all with its wheelchair-friendly entrance, Southwark Cathedral offers free admission, though donations to support its maintenance are appreciated. After exploring, visitors can relax at the Southwark Cathedral Café, savoring delicious coffee and cakes.

Only wanted to visit the peace dove display. What a beautiful display and equally beautiful cathedral. It's also a bonus to see a place disabled friendly. The cafe is lovely with inside & outside seating as well as a lovely little gift shop as you go in the main entrance. No fee just donation based. The staff on site are fantastic. Cash and card are accepted. This cathedral not only has such a beautiful and long history it's beautiful kept. I'll definitely recommend anyone to visit
