About

The Jagiellonian University's holdings extend to the magnificent Botanical Garden. It traces its roots back to 1752, with Jesuit monks considered to be its founders. Almost 5,000 diverse plants stretch towards the sun over an area of more than 9 hectares. Among them, about 2,000 grow in greenhouses − the climate is not suitable for every plant. Alpine vegetation, stunning palms, Indian lotuses − it's as if a whole "harem" of green splendor has been gathered here. The Polish also pride themselves on the Jagiellonian Oak. It has turned 231 years old − a veritable long-liver and celebrant!
