About

Quite young and the largest among his four brothers, the Piłsudski Mound was constructed in 1934 at the request of Polish legionnaires and was named in honor of Józef Piłsudski, an advocate for independence and a hero. Its diameter exceeds 111 meters, and its height is 35 meters. Such dimensions allow numerous tourists to admire the surroundings and panoramic views. The artificial mound was purposefully created on top of the Sowiniec hill, which is also the tallest in Krakow. It is located not far from the Kościuszko Mound, so both monuments can be visited in one day. By the way, the soil for its creation was specifically taken from the places where Poles fought and died.
