Frankfurt

The ascent to the observation deck of Maintower - one of the tallest buildings in Frankfurt (200 m) - takes 45 seconds. Stroll through the park avenues to the Opera House to admire the masterpieces of modern German architecture in the Financial District. Then head to the Old Town - the contrast is incredible.

The tallest building in the historical center is the Langer Franz bell tower at the Town Hall (70 m). Nearby is St. Paul's Church with its huge dome. The famous Christmas market takes place on Römerberg square. Organize a photoshoot against the backdrop of medieval houses and the fountain. Close to the Gothic Alte Nikolaikirche, find the memorial plaque at the site of the book burnings.

You can find beautiful old houses near the Historical Museum and the Schirn Kunsthalle art gallery. Admire the facade of the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (locally known as Kaiserdom). The cathedral's tower has an observation deck (328 steps on foot).

Frankfurt ranks second in Germany for the number of museums. Noteworthy sites include the Goethe House, the German Museum of Romanticism, Caricatura, and MMK (modern art). Dozens of museums are located along the banks of the Main River. Stunning panoramic photos of the city can be taken from the Old Bridge. Sightseeing river tours start nearby the Iron Bridge.
