About
Nestled in the heart of Florence, the Battistero di San Giovanni stands as a prime example of Romanesque architecture. Construction commenced in 1059, and the site was officially opened in 1128. This landmark serves as both a baptistery and a place of worship, offering visitors a glimpse into the historical and cultural fabric of the city.
Renowned for its impressive ceiling frescos and the iconic bronze 'Gates of Paradise' by Ghiberti, the interior of the Baptistery is undeniably beautiful. Notable works also include the South Door by Andrea Pisano and the North Door by Ghiberti, all of which contribute to its status as a masterpiece of Florentine Renaissance art.
It's a compact yet majestic space, making it a perfect stop for those who enjoy photography-allow around 15-20 minutes to truly appreciate what it has to offer. Family-friendly and rich in detailed explanations, this site ensures an immersive visit for all ages.
Your ticket to the Dome or the Tower visits includes access to this splendid structure, allowing you to experience its deep historic and cultural value. With an average rating of 4.7 on Google, the Battistero di San Giovanni is a must-see attraction in Florence.
