Crazy pub, can’t fully describe what was going on inside concisely. There was a man with one leg in a wheelchair smoking inside and boxes of chicken shop on the pool table. Cash only. Pint of fosters £5

🚇All Saints (DLR) 🍺 £4.00 Carlsberg The Festival Inn is situated at the rear entrance to Chrisp Street Market in Poplar, East London. The nearest station is All Saints on the DLR. This pub is Grade II listed and was built in 1951. The Festival Inn is named after the Festival of Britain which took place across the UK in the summer of 1951. The pub along with Chrisp Street Market were built as part of the Festival of Britain, Chrisp Street Market was the first purpose-built UK pedestrian shopping area. This is a traditionally decorated two bar pub which retains many of its original features from its post war construction. The Saloon Bar is located on the left hand side and has a long servery stretching down the length of the bar. The bar area is a good size with a long banquette, a couple of Tv’s and original wood panelling cladding the walls. On the right of the pub is a Public Bar which has its own separate entrance. This bar is of a similar size and boasts a pool table and dartboard, unfortunately the bar was closed when I visited. The beer line was a straightforward selection of well known brands but didn’t include any cask ale. I decided on a pint of Carlsberg, my pint hit the spot, price point was great at four quid (cash only). This is a wet-led pub meaning it serves no food. We arrived around 2pm on overcast Wednesday afternoon in December. The pub was fairly busy with an older local crowd in attendance. The atmosphere was chilled, relaxed with a local pub feel. I was with fellow Pubstagramers @scottyboy71 and @pintandanotherone and we soon got chatting to the friendly locals who were surprised we visited the pub. The service was as friendly as the locals were, we were well looked after by the nice chap behind the ramp. @thefestivalinn was a fantastic visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I loved the friendly East End punters, the warm welcome and the traditional make-up of this boozer. The post-war built pub is now the rarest type of pub you’ll find in London. If you want to sample some post-war pub perfection, then get this pub on your list. 📅 18th December 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap
