First time in San Fran and my wife found this place for dinner on our first night. The two of us and our 9 year old daughter loved everything.

Had high hopes from this place based on my experience with Michelin stars, and most of the food wasn’t bad, but for $30-50 an entree, and a Michelin star, I expected far better. Service and cocktails were great, but just from the aspect of food, I didn’t find anything unique or special about the menu or the dishes. I would suggest that if you don’t care about just crossing off a Michelin star restaurant off your list, there are genuinely good Thai restaurants in the city with equally good or better food (regardless of the cost). Try those.

I loved my dining experience here. I came with a group of 7 others, and we ordered from the prix fixe menu. I greatly appreciate how accommodating the staff was with our dietary restrictions! They customized our meal to ensure everyone was able to eat, and were very friendly about it! The food was delicious and I would definitely come back: - mushroom hor mok (4.5/5): fantastic fresh flavors, and great textures. Such a cool concept. - nam tok beans (5/5): a must get! The beans were perfectly crispy and flavors were complex. I will get this every time I return. - tomato salad (4.5/5): fresh flavorful tomatoes in a light dressing. I loved the mixture of flavors and textures with the tomatoes, shallots, and peanuts. - khao yum (5/5): I am so glad this was on the prix fixe menu, because I don't think I would've ordered it. This was fantastic! I loved the crispy rice with all of the fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables. I'll also get this every time I return. - pad kee mao (4/5): great execution and delicious. I loved the crumbled tofu they served with this. If you're limited on stomach space though, I'd skip this since you can get it at many places. - black cod gaeng kua (5/5): the fish was cooked perfectly and was served with two pieces of crisp fish skin, which I loved. This was so flavorful. I highly recommend this. - caramelized pork belly: I didn't actually eat this, but wanted to include in my review because my friend said "it was the best pork belly [he's] ever had." - black rice pudding (5/5): I personally loved this dish, but it's probably an acquired taste. It's less sweet than most western desserts. I loved the subtle flavor of the pudding mixed with the coconut cream and rice praline. I would definitely save room for this at the end of the meal. Overall, I'd highly recommend eating at Kin Khao. Definitely make a reservation in advance if possible. The line remained from 6 pm until 8:30 pm.
