However, a scientific organization with no ties to Lithuania conducted a study and, based on the latest data, managed to calculate a center that turned out to be near Vilnius!

The Geographical Center of Europe, located in Vilnius, is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the most precise and realistic averaged point of geographical significance. The site itself is near the Park of Europe, a place tourists appreciate, finding it interesting to visit such an important location. There are accurate plaques indicating the distance in kilometers to the nearest European capitals.

Bejártam már Európa számos szegletét – álltam a déli sziklák szélén, a fagyos északi partokon, a keleti városok csendjében és a nyugati óceánpartok zajában. Valahogy minden út végül ide vezetett: a kontinens szívébe. A litván erdők és mezők között, egy csendes ponton található az a hely, amit a geológusok Európa közepének jelöltek ki. Itt nincsenek látványos sziklák vagy monumentális építmények – csak a tudat, hogy körülötted minden irányban ugyanannyira vagy a szélektől. Mégis különleges érzés itt állni. Számomra ez nem csak egy földrajzi hely. Inkább egy szimbolikus pillanat: a felismerés, hogy bármilyen úton jártam – délnek, északnak, keletnek vagy nyugatnak –, végül minden ide futott össze. Mintha a sok kilométer, a határokon átívelő utazások, a hajnalba nyúló utak mind erre a pontra készítettek volna fel. Nem harsány látványosság ez, hanem egy csendes emlékeztető arra, hogy néha a középen állva értjük meg igazán az utat, amit bejártunk.
