We had the most incredible lunch at The Waterman Arms yesterday. Since moving to Twickenham from East London (where we were spoilt for choice with restaurants), we’ve found most places in the local radius a little underwhelming – but this was such a breath of fresh air. With Ricky being a chef and me a foodie (plus entertaining being a big part of my work), our bar is always high, and this absolutely delivered.
It was also our first meal out as a family since I gave birth 10 weeks ago, and Cassius was picture perfect, happily asleep in the pram the whole time, which made it extra special. The menu is exactly our style: small, seasonal dishes, beautifully put together with real depth of flavour, perfectly portioned and fairly priced.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, almost like a French bistro. Our waitress, Sutton, was fantastic – knowledgeable when helping us choose wine and so pleasant, which really elevated the experience. Service is so often underestimated, but it makes all the difference. The gentleman with dark hair (possibly the manager) was also lovely – friendly, warm and attentive – and genuinely added to the enjoyment of our meal.
We can’t wait to make this our new local and come back to try more dishes, especially Sunday lunch. A real gem in Barnes.
