Named after the city's patron saint, St. Florian, who is revered as a protector against fire and conflagrations, these gates are among the few medieval monuments that have "survived." Reaching a height of 34.5 meters, the gates served as the entrance for kings and envoys into Wawel Castle. From the south, the structure proudly displays the coat of arms of the Piast dynasty, featuring a white eagle, instilling hope in the hearts of the inhabitants who defended the city itself back in the 15th century. Turning to the west, one would see the Tanners' and Carpenters' Towers, while to the east lies the Tower of the Furriers. Interestingly, the gates still retain their functional mobility and can be locked. And if one is to believe the legend, standing between the two walls in the passageway and listening carefully, one might discover their calling.
