The area currently occupied by the Grosser Garten began to be developed in 1676. Initially, these surroundings housed hunting grounds intended for the amusement of the nobility. They existed for seven years, until 1683, when it was decided to create a grand park area in this location. At that time, the garden of Palais Grosser was designed in the French style, but as its lawns gradually became filled with lush shrubs and large trees, an English style became more prominent.

Throughout its long history, the Grosser Garten has survived both the invasion by Napoleon's troops and the Second World War. During both periods, it was completely destroyed. The last reconstruction of the garden utilized surviving paintings and drawings, so it has not been fully restored to its original appearance. Nevertheless, Palais Grosser is still considered the most beautiful park in Dresden, covering an area of two square kilometers.

Juli 2025. Leuk om op een zonnige dag een wandeling door de tuin te maken. Het prachtige gebouw welke in de jaren 90 volledig is hersteld is helaas alleen van buiten te bezichtigen. Het is soms geopend voor tentoonstellingen. Tijdens mijn bezoek was het gebouw permanent gesloten. In de tuin rond het "paleis" loopt een minister waar treinen rijden waar kinderen bij mee kunnen. Erg vermakelijk om te zien en absoluut leuk voor de kinderen.
