About

Grundtvigs Church in Copenhagen stands as a testament to architectural brilliance, blending the dramatic flair of Expressionist architecture with the timeless beauty of Gothic Revival. Designed by the notable architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, this awe-inspiring structure was completed in 1926 after five years of meticulous construction. Its unique 'brutalist' Gothic style is a rare sight, making it a must-visit for both architecture enthusiasts and those seeking a place of tranquility.

The church's interior is both striking and serene, characterized by its soaring vaulted ceilings and cavernous space that evokes a sense of silence and inner peace. Beyond its walls, the adjacent Bispebjerg Cemetery adds a layer of natural beauty, especially in autumn when the landscape transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of colors.

Visitors can easily access Grundtvigs Church via the 6A bus from downtown Copenhagen, with convenient parking options available nearby. With an impressive average Google rating of 4.7, this stunning landmark comes highly recommended for anyone exploring the historical and cultural richness of Copenhagen.

Walked in and was blown away! If you’re expecting a typical, historic European cathedral this will be different, but the lighting and architecture were amazing. This place is gaining some popularity for being the inspiration of the church in Shrek, which if that’s the case I was honored to be where Lord Farquaad once stood. We went around 2:30 pm and the organ was playing which was great!
