This was once my favourite afternoon tea spot in wales, however I was somewhat dissatisfied with my most recent visit, and would like to share this feedback for other potential patrons. There is certainly a staff shortage, previously when I attended this tea house they had table service which meant for a much more relaxing experience. When I attended there was a 10 minute queue to order, and you had to stand and wait for your tea at the counter. This results in a large crowd loitering near the entrance of the building and disrupts to atmosphere. Additionally they do indeed bring the afternoon tea to the table later, which means there can be as much as 15-20 minutes between getting your tea and your food. The afternoon tea itself is ok, with marvellous scones (yet a stingy portion of cream and jam). The cakes are very pleasant and the cucumber sandwich is a stand out. The issue is that since I last visited the prince has been increased to over £30 per afternoon tea, while the quality of the tea service has fallen. Put simply, you can get a much better experience for 2/3 the price. As a result I cannot recommend barkers tea room for their afternoon tea. Which is unfortunate.
