About

The Cambre Abbey is situated on the expansive grounds of the Ixelles municipality and for many centuries, it housed a Cistercian nunnery within its walls. The abbey has undergone several major reconstructions, and efforts to restore its former architectural beauty are ongoing even today.

The church in Cambre is built in the Gothic style, characterized by its strict linearity, massive arched windows, and a facade with a sharp apex. Today, it serves as an active parish where Catholic masses are regularly held. Conventionally, the abbey is divided into two parts: medieval and more modern, the latter having acquired its current appearance after restorations. Cambre is also home to the Belgian Geographic Society and an independent school of arts.
