Hospitable Europe

Hospitable Europe

How we relaxed in hot Spain. Wonderful time spent in Tenerife.

It turns out Europe is also quite suitable for long-term independent travels :)

And for starters, we chose Spain and specifically the Canary Islands (Tenerife and Gran Canaria), since it's quite warm there in February-March, and you can swim as the water temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius.

In the end, we spent just over a month in Tenerife. And 7 days in Gran Canaria.

How to get to Tenerife?

From Russia, there are direct flights to Tenerife, mainly charter flights, with the round-trip cost starting from 15,000 rubles. You can also buy tickets with one stopover through some European city, for example, on the website of the airline Airberlin.

It's also easy to get to Tenerife from Europe, for instance, we flew from Belgium on a RyanAir low-cost airline first to Gran Canaria, and then a week later took a ferry to Tenerife. The cost of the flight was about 50 euros. It's also possible to fly directly to Tenerife.

How to get around Tenerife?

The easiest way is to rent a car. And you can do this right upon arrival at the airport, as well as directly on the spot. We rented a Citroen C3 automatic from a local agency in Las Americas for 3 days. The cost was about 27 euros per day.

You can also rent a scooter, but the rental prices are not much lower than renting a car. Somewhere from 15 euros per day. Yes, this is not Thailand where scooter rental costs 5-7 dollars :)

There is also bus service between cities, and you can easily reach any point in Tenerife by bus. For example, we first spent a day in the capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz, and then took a bus to the resort of Las Americas.

Prices in Tenerife.

From my experience, prices are roughly the same as in Russia. Fruits and vegetables are cheaper.

There are several very large supermarkets. One of which is Gran Sur. There you could buy everything :)

On the promenade, there are many different cafes and restaurants. And very delicious ice cream... Mmm...

What sports can you do in Tenerife?

Surfing is very popular in Tenerife, but I didn't dare to try it. Because the seabed is mostly rocky.

Also, in Tenerife, I fulfilled my long-time dream - practicing yoga by the ocean. We had a fantastic Filipino instructor, Adriana.

In this photo, a surf station, cafe, and at the same time, a place for practicing yoga :)
