Güell Palace in Barcelona
About
The Güell Palace was built at the request of Gaudí's wealthy patron, who also happened to be a close friend. The building is among the first works of the famous architect, renowned for his unique ability to make every project distinctive and extraordinary.
The facade of the structure is made of sturdy gray stone that was quarried for a long time not far from the city. Its exterior strongly resembles Venetian palazzos with their foundations submerged in water. Gaudí was looking ahead when he designed the wrought iron arches for carriage passageways, leading visitors to a kind of underground parking area from where guests could easily ascend to the living room via stairs, leaving the horses below. Güell Palace is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and its doors are open to the public daily.
