Памятник Питеру Паулю Рубенсу был установлен на Зеленой площади в Антверпене в 1843 г. в знак памяти о великом художнике спустя 200 лет после его смерти. Рубенс немало сделал для города: он создавал эскизы для архитекторов; писал монументальные полотна для украшения церквей, дворцов и муниципальных зданий; руководил мастерской, где обучались и работали молодые живописцы; писал книги об искусстве. Поэтому его памятник достаточно строг и важен- бронзовая фигура основоположника барокко стоит на квадратном каменном пьедестале, лишенном каких-либо вычурных декоративных элементов, и хорошо смотрится в центре площади на фоне собора Антверпенской Богоматери.

Die Statue zeigt Rubens in voller Größe, würdevoll aufrecht stehend, mit einem Umhang und einem Zeichen seiner Künstlerrolle – oft mit einer Schriftrolle oder einem Buch in der Hand dargestellt. Er blickt ruhig und selbstbewusst über den Platz, so, als würde er seine Stadt bis heute beobachten. Im Hintergrund ragt der Turm der Kathedrale unserer Lieben Frau (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal) auf – ein stimmungsvoller Kontrast zwischen Kunst und Glaube, ganz passend für einen Künstler, der so viele Altäre gestaltet hat.
