This is one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve had at a restaurant or wine bar in years. I arrived in the late afternoon on a sweltering day after an exhausting trip. Every restaurant and bar on the main street in this part of the city was absolutely packed by people from other places. I was looking for a much more low-key vibe and this was the place for me. A Wonderful man, who I believe to be the owner, welcomed me and brought me a glass of wine. Along with that glass of wine, he brought me a piece of melon just because he was having some and it was delicious. I actually don’t think I’ve ever had someone at a restaurant offer me something at the staff are eating just because they want everyone to enjoy something delicious. Over the course of the late afternoon at a table next to me, (I was sitting outside on a ridiculously picturesque car free street) people from the neighborhood who know each other passed by, stopped in, and sat down and had a glass of wine with each other. They were even incredibly friendly to me. One friend of the owner’s came over to my table to ask me about myself and to ask me if I needed advice about Zürich. This place also has one of the most incredible wine lists that I’ve ever seen in my life. Sadly, I was not able to eat dinner, but from what everyone told me the food here is also extraordinary. The place is located on a beautiful street a single block off of the main street on the side of the city across the water from the train station. But it seems a world away from the raucous restaurants that are pretty close by. It’s like shifting into a bit of the slow food and wine world. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in Zürich.
