We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant just by chance on our way from the squirrel man to our hotel in Helmsley while visiting Byland Abbey. Initially, we just wanted to have a cup of 🫖 but then were drawn in by the very special atmosphere and by the very nice and professional waiter - and didn’t regret it! It was a special-occasion-day, my brother-in-law would have been 100 years old, so we treated ourselves to a delicious Chateaubriand on his behalf, and did have a wonderful evening - it will stick in our minds for a very long time! Thank you, Abbey Inn - we’ll come back!

I came back here as I drove past by accident and thought I must return. Return I did and what an amazing spot for a pub. It is obviously popular and I visited on a hot summers day which helped a lot. The location is stunning as I am sure other reviews have covered. The food is also top notch as is the beer. On my one visit to this pub I have have zero faults. Go, enjoy, eat and drink and review

We wanted to take our mum out for her birthday and the Abbey Inn was recommended by one of my friends, he said it was the best Sunday dinner he'd ever had. In short, it didn't disappoint, the service from staff was excellent and my mum even got a birthday card when we sat down. The food was brilliant, from starter to main and desert. They have their own farm which is located locally so I believe the majority of the produce is from there, including the meat - honestly I would have to say it us up there as the best Sunday lunch experience I've had as well. Filled yorkshire puddings were next level. Good choice of beers too, some locally sourced. The Abbey Inn is also in quite secluded area, surrounded by woodland, and (The clue is in the name) it is opposite the ruins of Byland Abbey - which you can visit for free and have a look around to walk off your meal or to build an appetite. Definitely going to come back - thanks a lot!
