Tampere

Start your walk through the historical center of Tampere near the Cathedral. Visit the Museum Quarter on the eastern waterfront and have a photo session with the bridges and locks as your backdrop.

Cross the bridge to the Old Center – the Finlayson area. Here, on the site of a former factory, the free Werstas Labor Museum operates. Visit the Spy Museum, stables, palace, and church. Climb the paths of Näsinpuisto Park to enjoy lake views from the Malavida Palace.

Try local farmers' products at the historic market, and admire the unusual facade of the city library. Head to Pyynikki South Park, climb the observation tower, and try the famous donuts. Walk through the Pispalan underground tunnel. There are great beaches in the Tahmela and Rantaperkio areas. Located in the northwestern part of the city is the Särkänniemi amusement park and the tall Näsinneula Tower with panoramic views. Cruises on Lake Näsijärvi with sauna visits are popular.

Tampere is the best starting point for exploring the Finnish Lake District. Stroll to the waterfalls, and go canoeing. Appreciate the beauty of the Punkaharju ridge (a 7-kilometer narrow road surrounded by lakes). Relax in Aulanko Park and at the Kuopio ski resort.
