Szczecin

The large port city of Szczecin is located in the northwest of Poland and is the capital of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The city was almost completely destroyed during World War II. Nevertheless, many local attractions, churches, and old mansions were restored and now constitute the cultural heritage of Szczecin. It astonishes with its original architecture, which blends various styles, as well as its unusual layout due to numerous canals and rivers.

In the city center, there are five squares—each with several streets radiating from it, along which you can see many attractions. Among them is the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic, mesmerizing with its orchestra's long history and its architecture—this majestic building resembles an iceberg. Inside the Philharmonic, you can not only enjoy enchanting music but also explore two unique concert halls, walk through original corridors, and winding staircases.

In Szczecin, more than 500 hectares are dedicated to green spaces. You can take a walk in one of the 15 parks, the largest of which is Kasprowicz Park. It is here that the botanical garden "Rosary" ("Różanka") is located, where 99 varieties of roses are cultivated.

What to buy?

In Szczecin, you will find many little shops where you can buy souvenirs to remember your trip, including the usual fridge magnets, keychains, or even a wine opener with images of the city.

As a gift from your trip, you could also bring back the famous Szczecin paprikasz - a canned dish made of fish paste, rice, and tomato paste, which has been produced since 1967. Paprikasz is beloved by the people, and there is even a monument to this canned good in Szczecin.

What to try?

After a long walk around the city, it's the perfect time to head to the nearest café and get acquainted with the local cuisine. Be sure to try the Szczecin "pasztecik"—a delicious puff pastry roll filled with minced meat, egg, or mushrooms. You can buy the traditional "pasztecik" at buffets located on al. Wojska Polskiego and at 10 Cardinal Wyszyński Street. You can also order borscht in a cup here.

If you not only want to eat well but also get to know the important historical spots in Szczecin, then embark on a private tour of bars and restaurants. During this tour, you can try craft beers and typical Polish dishes, as well as visit iconic places in the city.
