I very rarely leave reviews anywhere, but one of the bouncers working the night of 6/29/25 made me feel extremely unwelcome as a trans man, so please be careful. This bouncer decided to separate me from my group and aggressively question and ID me. First he separated me, then he asked me something I didn't hear, then immediately starting being like "are you frustrated, sir?" It was so weird and out of nowhere. He took my ID from me, kept antagonizing me, trying to get me to be angry, maybe? I still have no clue, I was just staring at him confused. I assumed he thought I was plastered, so I told him I had only been drinking water that night, which was true. He KEPT GOING though, and wouldn't let me in! It got so bad my dad (cis gay man who this bouncer clearly respected more) had to come out of the bar to try and get me, and I just straight-up had to ask the bouncer "what are you trying to sus out, man?" He couldn't answer me, got flustered, then he literally turned to my partner with 'he/him' pronoun earings after and said "I didn't mean anything by it! I love your earrings!" Once he figured out he'd made an absolute fool of himself. It was actually really upsetting, I kind of just hung out by the pinball machines in the back just in utter shock at how I was treated until eventually just slipping out. Other bar patrons were literally trying to comfort me, that's how bad it was. (Btw if any of you see this somehow for some reason, thank you. I didn't reply at the time cause it was loud and because I was so upset but it helped. Don't worry I had an awesome Pride otherwise! Also shout out to the bartenders - my dad said they seemed to know what happened and were really nice lol. I'm so sorry you all have to work with this nonsense!) But really, what kind of LGBT place would separate out people like that to ID?! I already have to deal with TSA scanning my body and patting me down basically everytime I board a plane for existing as trans, which I just did coming from SD to SF FOR PRIDE, only to get this nonsense in Castro, of all places?? I mean yeesh. EDIT TO ADD: Google I edited the language to appease your AI like 8 different times, post it this review already! I'm trying to warn people! Also, I checked other review sites to see if this guy has given anyone else problems: in just the past couple weeks, multiple other people (allegedly) were being barred/ delayed from entering the establishment while the bouncer was questioning them about their race/ background. Embarassing for the establishment, honestly. I learned this is a really old historic bar, too, that even made it through COVID...pretty depressing it's run like this.
