About

On the corner of Grant and California in San Francisco stands the distinguished Old Saint Mary's Cathedral, an outstanding example of Gothic Revival architecture designed by Thomas England and William Craine. Since its opening in 1854, this iconic red brick church, once the tallest building in California, has gracefully settled into its hillside location. As the first cathedral in San Francisco, it carries a rich history and a reputation for its enchanting stained glass windows that add a touch of sacred artistry to its serene spaces.

Visitors often note the peaceful ambiance and the warm welcome they receive from the friendly staff, including a kind priest who is known for engaging in heartfelt conversations. While exploring the neighborhood of Chinatown, take a moment to appreciate the cathedral's stately beauty and perhaps stop by the Cathedral Store for charming religious gifts. With a solid 4.6 rating on Google, this historic gem truly embodies a piece of San Francisco's heritage, offering both a glimpse into the past and a serene escape from the bustling city outside.
