De moderne winkelstraat geniet nationale bekendheid . Het is een lange open passage alleen voor voetgangers met aan twee zijden winkels. De Lijnbaan was de eerste winkelpromenade in Nederland , en de eerste autovrije winkelpromenade van de wereld.
