About

Nestled in the heart of Piazza Barberini, Rome, the captivating Triton Fountain stands as a testament to Baroque architecture and the artistic genius of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Installed in 1643, this masterpiece features a muscular triton blowing into a shell horn, majestically positioned atop open shells held aloft by four dolphins with intertwined tails. Adorned with the Barberini family Coat of Arms, including a symbolic papal tiara and bees, it reflects the power and wealth of its patrons.

The Triton Fountain is an enchanting attraction, particularly stunning when illuminated in the evening, providing perfect photo opportunities. It was part of a broader initiative by Pope Urban VIII of the Barberini family, meant to symbolize their far-reaching influence and to embellish Rome with spectacular fountains.

Not only is it suitable for children, but it also resonates with visitors of all ages through its historical significance and artistic elegance. Inspired by scenes from Ovid's 'Metamorphoses,' it has fueled various works of art and literature over centuries. Recently restored in 2013 and 2017, the fountain continues to shine despite the bustling surroundings, making it a must-see for anyone exploring Rome. With an average Google rating of 4.6, it's highly recommended for a delightful and culturally enriching experience.

Amazing place and when the water is Flowing I could spend a long time there. Unfortunately, when I arrived on a Saturday morning at 9 AM, the water was turned off because they were cleaning all of the coins that people threw into the fountain for wishes out. This process took several hours, and I kept trying to go back to see if the fountain was on, but no. Luckily, I was in Italy a few years ago and got to see the fountain actually on, so it was kind of neat to see this other side.

Fontana iz 17. stoljeća koja se nalazi se na Piazzi Barberini, djelo je umjetnika Gian Lorenza Bernini-ja, koji je svojim građevinama, kipovima i fontanama transformirao izgled Rima.
