Here, one can enjoy performances of foreign works, both ballet and theatrical. The establishment of the theater in 1883 was initiated by the German national community. Initially, it was called the New German Theater, but today it is known as the Prague State Opera, considered one of the most important theaters in the Czech Republic.

After the Nazi regime took power in Germany, many emigrant musicians moved to the Prague Opera. However, due to political pressure and a lack of funds, the theater was closed. It reopened after the beginning of the German occupation. In 1945, a separate branch emerged here - the May 5th Theater, which opposed the conservatism of the National Theater. The arrival of the Communists led to the merging of both branches into one, and the newly formed alliance was named the Smetana Theater in honor of the famous Czech composer, whose works were frequently performed on its stages. Giants such as the Vienna Opera and the Bolshoi Theater have toured here. Since 1992, the theater has been called the Prague State Opera, separated from the National Theater, and only stages foreign productions.

Cet endroit est grandiose, surtout réservez à l'avance et profitez d'une soirée géniale. Avec ses couleurs rouge et or, on tombe dans la magie rapidement. Lors du séjour de Photolator, nous avons été charmés autant par la bâtisse, que par le spectacle. Si vous voyagez avec peu de valise, amenez-vous une robe sans rapassage et des souliers plats pliants, un truc facile pour une tenue de soirée.

피가로의 결혼을 보러갔습니다. 역사적인 곳에서 모차르트의 오페라를 볼 수 있어서 좋았고 훌륭한 가수들의 공연으로 더 인상적이었습니다. 그런데 box석으로 예매한 게 실수였습니다. 늦게 예매해서 box석 두번째줄로 샀는데 여러분은 box석 사도 절대 두번째줄 사지마세요! 앞사람들이 머리를 맞대고 있으면 무대가 아예 안보여요. 의자도 불편한데 앞줄에 앉은 프랑스어 쓰는 아버지와 두 어린 딸 둘이 내내 머리를 맞대고 뽀뽀하고 속닥거리고 스낵 먹고해서 정말 짜증났었습니다. 계속 주의를 줘도 막무가내여서 보다보다 휴식 시간에 좀 조용히 관람하면 안 되냐고 하니 어린 딸한테 실시간으로 노래 내용을 해석해줘야 한다면서 사과는 커녕 오히려 항변하더군요. 그렇게 세세한 내용은 공연 전이나 후에 알려주면 되지 않느냐고 했지만 다시 공연 시작하고 나서 계속 머리 맞대고 속닥속닥.그렇게 얘기하고싶으면 집에서 dvd나 보면서 얘기하지 왜 다른 애꿎은 관람객들에게 피해를 입히는 지 참 이해가 안 갔네요. 게다가 피가로의 결혼 자체가 성적인 표현이 많은 작품인데 그렇게 어린 애를 관람시키는 것도 문제고 공연 관람 예절을 전혀 모르는 그 몰상식한 가족들 때문에 그 좋았던 가수들의 노래를 100% 감상하지 못했던 게 참 너무나 아쉬웠고 기분 언짢았던 저녁이었네요.
