About

The Great Strahov Stadium in Prague stands as a monumental testament to the city's multifaceted architectural history. Designed by Alois Dryák and opened in 1926, this colossal complex transcends its original purpose, hosting an eclectic mix of activities today. While parts of the stadium have been repurposed for shops, local businesses, and fitness enthusiasts, it remains a focal point for football clubs and a vibrant gym scene. Visitors can access a public entrance that offers a glimpse into the vast interiors, where occasional electronic music events breathe new life into its abandoned rooms. Nearby, a small viewpoint provides a striking panorama of Prague, contrasting with the unique aura of the stadium's own storied past, distinct from the traditional landmarks of the city center.

We visited the Great Strahov Stadium today and took a tour. It was very interesting. The history of this stadium is just amazing. It could hold up to 250,000 people for events held by organizations such as Sokol. It is now leased by AC Sparta Praha (Football/Soccer Team) and used as a practice facility. The field is so big it can hold 9 international sized football pitches. The quality of the pitches are amazing. The actual stadium itself has fallen into massive disrepair. It is sad. So much history. The new Sparta Stadium will be built behind this stadium. They should at a minimum invest in repairing the outside of the Strahov stadium because it can have a positive impact on the aesthetics of the new stadium. Fans showing up and seeing the current outside quality of the Strahov Stadium is just not a great look for any professional stadium. It is definitely what will be seen first. Plus, around Strahov Stadium can be turned into hospitality areas and bars. Right now, you see a falling apart Stadium and an Auto Repair shop. It actually stinks of Communism Gone bad. This stadium has so much potential and character that should be preserved in some fashion—Even if just the outter areas which is what most people will only see anyway. For history and sports lovers, I recommend visiting this stadium.

Starý obrovský štadión, ktory ešte aj teraz poskytuje zázemie športovcom a sú tu tréningové plochy.
