About

The National Memorial on Vítkov Hill stands proudly in Prague as a stunning tribute to Czech history. This impressive site, designed by renowned architects like Jan Zázvorka and Jan Gillar, first opened its doors in 1929. It serves as both a solemn memorial and a cultural attraction, offering visitors a chance to explore the National Military Museum packed with fascinating exhibits. The striking equestrian sculpture of Jan Žižka dominates the landscape, providing a rich backdrop for learning about the past heroics of the Czech legionnaires of World War One.

Families with children will find this spot engaging, with its expansive parks and kid-friendly vibe. The path to Vítkov Hill offers a pleasant walk from Prokop Square or an easy tram ride. Once you reach the top, the observation deck reveals breathtaking panoramic views of Prague, a sight that visitors rate highly at 4.7 stars. The interior, with its art deco brutalist charm, includes an unusual exhibition on the embalming of Klement Gottwald, adding an intriguing element to the visit.

For just £3, you can delve into the past, explore artistic design, and embrace the unique perspective of the city from above. It's advisable, however, to mind the occasional swarm of flies on the upper terrace.

Bronzovou sochu Jana Žižky rád vidím z jiných oblastí Prahy. Každopádně ze střechy památníku je panoramatický výhled na většinu pražských částí. A ten výhled je dechberoucí. Vevnitř toho jinak moc není. Prezidentský salonek a hrob neznámého vojína vidíte jen zpovzdálí.

Extremely impressive monument which we unintentionally discovered after visiting the Army Museum. Definitely worth getting the lift to the top of the memorial for some stunning views. There is even a café serving Pilsner Urquell as a reward for climbing the hill! The monument itself is completely free too.
