About

The Palais Garnier is a building enveloped in a mystical aura not just because of Gaston Leroux's novel "The Phantom of the Opera". For instance, during the premiere of the opera "Faust," a spectator sitting in the seat numbered 13 was killed by a massive counterweight from a chandelier. Moreover, one of the ballerinas, who was descending the opulent staircase of the Grand Opera not carefully enough, died right on its 13th step. And the building itself - the Paris opera house is numbered 13.

Directly beneath its stage lies an almost real underground lake, serving as a water reservoir in case of fire. The grand building showcases an array of architectural styles, which initially led to ridicule directed at its architect. Today, trees are even refrained from being planted near the building so as not to obscure its splendor.
