About

In the charming city of Oviedo, the Sacred Heart Of Jesus Church stands as a Neo-Gothic masterpiece designed by Francisco Aparici in 1886. This architectural jewel, known locally as La Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, captivates visitors with its stunning cross-shaped layout and imposing tower crowned with a spire. Inside, the church boasts exquisite stained glass windows, notably one illustrating the Calvary, which adds a spiritual glow to the interior. Visitors can admire the church's rich decorations that celebrate the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Despite being part of the former Convent of the Visitación de Santa María, the church endured only minor damage during the 1937 bombing and now continues its religious mission under the care of the Compañía de Jesús. This historic sanctuary, with its beautiful altar images of San Ignacio de Loyola, San Francisco Javier, and Santa Juana Francisca de Chantal, offers a serene escape for both believers and those fascinated by religious architecture. Whether you're seeking solace or simply appreciating its beauty, the church remains a touchstone of faith and resilience in Oviedo. With a 4.5 average rating and wheelchair accessible entrance, it warmly welcomes all who visit.
