About

The Iglesia De San Tirso El Real in Oviedo stands as a fascinating blend of history and architecture. Situated near the Cathedral at Plaza de la Catedral de Oviedo, this Romanesque marvel welcomes visitors with its enduring charm. With origins tracing back to the 9th century under the patronage of King Alfonso II el Casto, this church has witnessed a tapestry of modifications spanning several centuries, including significant changes in the 12th and 16th centuries. A devastating fire in 1521 only added to its storied past. The church is notable for its Pre-Romanesque architecture, featuring three naves and a striking three-sectioned window on the east wall. Its distinctive ventanal ajimezado, adorned with three arches and supported by elegant marble columns, captures the essence of its intricate design. Classified as a Cultural Interest Property and an Artistic Historical Monument since 1931, the Iglesia De San Tirso El Real continues to captivate with its blend of historical significance and architectural beauty, earning a commendable 4.6 rating on Google.

Plaza Alfonso II Oviedo Templo parroquial.
