Freiaklokken ruver høyt over alle menneskene som måtte befinne seg på Karl Johans gate i Oslo, eller i nærheten av Stortinget T-banestasjon. Den er en flott og fargerik detalj i det store bybildet, og faktisk ganske så viktig for mange av oss - tror jeg - som har et ❤️ for Oslo. Helt siden 1909 har den satt sitt fargerike preg på byen, og er blitt en populær severdighet.

Freia-klokken ble førstegang tent lille julaften 1909. Dette var Europas første lysreklameskilt, med 800 glødelamper. I 1925 la de til en klokke til lysskiltet. Bygningskomiteen i det daværende Kristiania, stilte et betingelsesløst krav til oppsettingen av uret: “At der føres tilsyn med at uret altid gaar rigtig”. I 1956 fikk reklamen sine første neonrør. I 1987 ble reklamen totalrenovert og redesignet. Logoen ble større med animasjonen som fortsatt tikker og går. I 1991 fikk klokken ny logo og uret ble satelittstyrt, med en feilmarging på fem sekunder, pluss/minus over 10 000 år, i følge Kraft Food. I 2012 gjennomgikk lysskiltet en totalrehabilitering.
