Update 2025: Derzeit werden die Tramschienen ausgetauscht und das Denkmal steht mitten in einer großen Baustelle. Deshalb momentan ohne Aufenthaltsqualität. --- Sehenswertes Denkmal vom bayerischen König Maximilian II auf der Maximilianstraße im Lehel. Es liegt in zwei perfekten Sichtachsen einerseits zum Maximilianeum auf der östlichen Isarseite, andererseits zur ev. Kirche St. Lukas südlich die Thierschstraße hinunter. Auf einem Sockel aus Syenit und Granit steht der König im Krönungsornat, die Linke aufs Schwert gestützt, in der Rechten die Rolle mit der Verfassungsurkunde. Max II. folgte 1848 auf seinen Vater Ludwig der sich damals abzudanken veranlasst sah. Am Postament vier sitzende Erz-Allegorien: Friede, Wissenschaft, Gerechtigkeit, Wehrkraft; oben vier Genien als Wappenträger der vier bayerischen Volksstämme.
