About

Gran Vía Street, which in an informal translation means "Great Road," was built on the site of fourteen other streets and three hundred houses that had to be demolished to make way for its construction. Indeed, as befits a grand project, Gran Vía rose 'on the bones' as a modern bridge between prestigious districts.

The "Great Road," although it demanded great sacrifices, ultimately became the most famous and bustling street in Madrid, divided into three parts. The first section is done in a traditional style with columns, cornices, and large balconies; the second section embraces French "restoration" and liberated modernism; and the third is the embodiment of American rationalism. Beyond all this, Gran Vía Street is a true showcase of the big city, where everything that can be put on display is sold.
